MEET     SOPH
AKA SPORTS NUT SOPH

Join me plotting my detours like my backfoot on a shortboard. Kinda.

First things first, let’s address the cliché. Yes, I did that thing that seems to be a rite of passage for anyone in their late 20s or early 30s from the UK—hit pause on my career and travelled to the other side of the world for an immersion into the unknown. And yes, I started a blog. But this is where things go slightly (more) off track: if you’re after expert advice or meticulously planned itineraries, this probably isn’t for you. But if you're curious about chasing the right sport at the best time, with a laid-back arts and culture journal inspired approach, welcome.

This whole thing really started with the encouragement of friends and like-minded souls who urged me to document what I get up to. As the name suggests, I love sports. There are some that I’ve committed to regularly, and some I seek out now and again that get my heart racing (literally). I’m also a big fan of exploring and learning about new places. Somewhere along the line I realised my trips weren’t just about ticking off destinations; it always came down to pursuing cruisy waves or snowfall.

Taking a break from industry gave me the space to reflect, including what I loved about being a creative, and what had fallen by the way side. I figured it was a good time to lean into that - perhaps upskill too - but most importantly, bring my love for sports and adventure into the mix. That’s where those conversations about what I get up to came in, leading to me take the plunge and start Sports Nut Soph to document it all.

SO, WHERE IS THIS GOING?

If we’re ready to put labels on things, let's talk about what this is: chronicles of my sports adventures, when I do them and where, sharing some unexpected insights too.

As someone with a background in art direction and design, I’ve always loved publications like The Surfer’s Journal and Eye Magazine for their storytelling and focus on culture, art, and visual communication. I want to embrace that sort of creativity and have some fun beyond the confines of the work I often do for brands.

This isn’t your typical “where to go” blog; it’s a space for those whose sport pursuits shape their travels, rooted in lifestyle, curiosity, and staying honest. If you're open to a more real approach, some humbled learnings along the way, with room for a few laughs, stay tuned.
